Nuala: Hi, I’m Nuala O’Sullivan and you’re listening to ‘Exam Skills’. In this
programme we look at two systems for building your vocabulary, because
increasing your vocabulary is ‘a must’ if you want to succeed in any English
exam.
Here’s examiner Mark Shea.

It’s very important that you treat vocabulary building systematically. You need to keep all of your new vocabulary in a particular place. It’s not enough to write it down on loose sheets of paper which you’ll never look at again. So you need a vocabulary notebook.
Nuala: It’s obvious, isn’t it? Write down your vocabulary somewhere you can find it!
Now here’s a student who’s well on the way to building a good English
vocabulary.

Actually I love revising, and I love to do the work that I’ve just done at school and I love to make vocabulary notebooks. Well, I try to check the vocabulary notebooks every day.
Nuala: But unless you build your notebooks systematically, it’s very easy to get lost in endless lists of words.
