부사[adverb], 문장의 미용사
                                          내용출처 : http://www.engplus.82.net/

1. 개념-definition
부사란, 어떤 일이 언제[when], 어디서[where], 왜[why], 어떤 조건으로 [under what conditions], 어느정도로[ to what degree an action occurred or a situation existed] 일어났는 가를 나타내는 말로, 보통 -ly로 끝나지요. 그래서 부사는 언제[when], 어디[where], 왜[why], 어떤 조건 아래 [under what conditions], 어느 정도로[ to what degree an action occurred or a situation existed]에 대한 대답이라 할 수 있는데, 이들이 하는 일은 꾸밈받는 말의 정보를 추가하는 일입니다.

A word which describes or gives more information about a verb, adjective, adverb or phrase.-Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary

형용사가 명사 앞에 붙어 명사 모습을 설명하듯, 부사는 모든 말 앞에 나아가, 그 모습을 설명해[꾸며]주므로, 형용사처럼 수식어[modifier/꾸밈말]에 속합니다.

부사는 모든 말을 다 꾸며주지[설명하지]만 그 가운데 주로 관계하는 것은 동사, 형용사, 부사 입니다.

How did he drive? He drove slowly. 느리게 운전한다. '느리게'가 '운전했다' 동사를 설명하지요? 어떻게 운전했다에 대한 설명이 느리게란 부사로 나타난 거지요.

How fast was his car? He drove a very fast car.

How slowly did she move? She moved quite slowly down the aisle. 그 여자는 느리게 통로아래로 내려갔다. 'quite' 이라는 부사가 'slowly'부사를 설명하고 있습니다.

부사를 이렇게 바꾸어 생각 해 보지요. 꾸며지는 말은 꺽쇠 속에 넣었습니다.
Jack runs quickly. 'Jack이 어떻게 [달린다]?' 에 대한 대답이 부사 'quickly'입니다.
This puzzle is unquestionably difficult. '이 수수께끼는 어느정도로 [어려운] 문제다'의 어느정도 [어려운]가에 대한 대답이 부사 'unquestionably'지요.
She lives here.

She is gradually finishing her dissertation. 그녀는 논문을 점점 끝내가고 있다.

  • When this class is over, we're going to the movies.

Our group left the hotel after it stopped raining.
When [it is] painted white, this room will appear much larger. 흰 페인트를 칠하면 방은 넓어보인다.

The office is the place where she wasted most of her life.
이 사무실은 그녀가 그녀 삶의 대부분을 보냈던 곳이다.'where she wasted most of her life'는 'the place' 를 설명하므로 형용사절, 한편 'where'는 그녀는 '그 곳에서'[그녀 삶의 대부분을] '보냈다'의 보냈다를 설명하고 있으므로 부사적으로 쓰였지요?
These are the times when Joan lost her initiative.이 때가 Joan이 그녀의 주도권을 잃었던 시기다
That is the reason why Mark refused to come.
I wondered how she solved the math question.그녀가 그 수학문제를 어떻게 풀었을까.

    6.2 부사구-adverbial phrases
주어와 동사를 포함하지 않는 한 무리의 낱말[구]이 부사처럼 쓰일 때, 이를 부사구라합니다. 「Review it very carefully」에서 very carefully는 순수한 부사구입니다. 아래 예문은 전치사에 명사가 붙어 다양한 부사의 역할을 해내고 있습니다. 물론 전치사구가 부사 노릇만을 하는 건 아닙니다.

    대명사 목적어→부사 뒤
    의 위치를 갖게 됩니다.
