Once upon a time, there was a handsome prince and a beautiful princess who lived happily ever after.

The prince was from Persia and the princess was from Bengal.
왕자는 페르시아 출신이었고 공주는 벵골 출신이었습니다.
How did two people from different countries meet each other?

Here is the story.
지금부터 그 이야기를 들려드리겠습니다.
In the country of Persia, the people were allowed to visit the king on the first day of every year.
페르시아에서는 해마다 첫날에 백성들이 왕을 찾아뵐 수 있었습니다.
Many people went to the palace to meet the king.
많은 사람이 왕을 만나러 궁전에 갔습니다.
The king greeted many people in his palace.
왕은 궁전에서 많은 사람을 맞이했습니다.
One year, a magician went to the palace to see the king.
어느 해에 한 마술사가 왕을 만나러 궁전에 찾아왔습니다.
“Your Majesty,” said the magician, “I’d like to give you this magic horse. The horse took me many years to make. The horse can fly and carry you to the other side of the world very quickly.”
“폐하, 이 마법의 말을 드리고 싶습니다.” 마술사가 말했습니다. “이 말을 만드는 데 여러 해가 걸렸습니다. 이 말은 하늘을 날아서 폐하를 세상 반대편까지 아주 빨리 모셔다드릴 수 있습니다.”
The king was amazed by the horse, but the prince of Persia, Prince Firouz, was even more amazed.
왕은 그 말을 보고 놀랐지만, 페르시아의 피루즈 왕자는 더욱 놀랐습니다.
The prince was standing next to the king and he jumped with joy.
왕 옆에 서 있던 왕자는 기뻐서 펄쩍 뛰었습니다.
“I want to try!” Prince Firouz shouted joyfully.
“제가 타 보고 싶어요!” 피루즈 왕자가 기뻐하며 외쳤습니다.
He jumped onto the horse.
왕자는 말 위로 뛰어올랐습니다.
“Your Highness,” said the magician, “you only need to press the button on the right, then…”
“왕자님, 오른쪽에 있는 단추만 누르시면 됩니다. 그러면…” 마술사가 말했습니다.
The magician had not finished speaking when Prince Firouz pressed the button.
마술사가 말을 마치기도 전에 피루즈 왕자가 단추를 눌렀습니다.
With one single jump, the horse had flown away.
말은 단 한 번 뛰더니 날아가 버렸습니다.
When Prince Firouz disappeared with the horse, the king got very angry.
피루즈 왕자가 말과 함께 사라지자 왕은 몹시 화가 났습니다.
“Because of you, my son is gone,” the king shouted at the magician.
“너 때문에 내 아들이 사라졌다!” 왕이 마술사에게 소리쳤습니다.
The king ordered the guards to capture the magician.
왕은 경비병들에게 마술사를 붙잡으라고 명령했습니다.
The magician was thrown into jail.
마술사는 감옥에 갇혔습니다.
Part 2 · 먼 나라의 공주

Meanwhile, the young prince flew over the mountains, rivers, and towns.

He finally landed near a huge palace.

The prince did not enter the palace, but he hid behind the trees.
왕자는 궁전에 들어가지 않고 나무 뒤에 숨었습니다.
He did not know if the people of the palace were friendly or not.

He decided to wait till it was night to look around.

After dark, Prince Firouz moved closer to the palace.

He looked through one of the windows and saw a beautiful girl sleeping.
왕자는 창문 하나를 통해 안을 들여다보다가 아름다운 소녀가 자고 있는 모습을 보았습니다.
Firouz was surprised because she was very beautiful.
소녀가 무척 아름다워서 피루즈는 놀랐습니다.
The young princess woke up when a light wind shook her window.
산들바람에 창문이 흔들리자 어린 공주가 잠에서 깨어났습니다.
She saw Firouz standing outside the window, and she was surprised.
공주는 창밖에 서 있는 피루즈를 보고 놀랐습니다.
“Who are you?” she asked.
“누구세요?” 공주가 물었습니다.
“I am Firouz, son of the king of Persia,” whispered Firouz.
“저는 페르시아 왕의 아들 피루즈입니다.” 피루즈가 속삭였습니다.
“I am Moon Flower, daughter of the king of Bengal,” the princess replied. “Did you travel a long way? If you like, you may stay in the palace for the night.”
“저는 벵골 왕의 딸 문 플라워예요.” 공주가 대답했습니다. “먼 길을 오셨나요? 원하시면 오늘 밤 궁전에서 묵으셔도 좋아요.”
Princess Moon Flower rang a golden bell and her servants came in.
문 플라워 공주가 금빛 종을 울리자 하인들이 들어왔습니다.
The servants guided Prince Firouz to a room.
하인들은 피루즈 왕자를 방으로 안내했습니다.
Thanks to Moon Flower, Firouz spent a peaceful night at the palace.
문 플라워 덕분에 피루즈는 궁전에서 평온한 밤을 보냈습니다.
Part 3 · 결혼식 전날의 사건
A Wedding and a Disappearance

The next morning, Firouz told the princess about his adventure and about the magical horse.

The whole palace was happy with the news of the wedding.

Everyone was busy trying to get ready for the wedding, but there was one person who was very unhappy.

The magician was angry with the king for throwing him in jail.

The night before the wedding, the magician kidnapped the princess.

He took the princess on his magical horse and flew away.

The next morning, Firouz saw that his princess was missing and became very sad.

The king of Kashmir became very jealous and angry.

“I saved your life,” said the king in an angry voice. “If you do not marry me, I will lock you up in this palace forever!”
“내가 네 목숨을 구했다.” 왕이 화난 목소리로 말했습니다. “나와 결혼하지 않으면 영원히 이 궁전에 가두겠다!”
The king of Kashmir locked the princess in his palace.
카슈미르 왕은 공주를 궁전에 가두었습니다.
The princess did not want to marry the king of Kashmir.
공주는 카슈미르 왕과 결혼하고 싶지 않았습니다.
She acted like she was crazy.
공주는 제정신이 아닌 척했습니다.
When the king visited her, she screamed like a crazy person and kicked everything in her room.
왕이 찾아오면 공주는 제정신이 아닌 사람처럼 소리를 지르며 방 안의 물건을 마구 발로 찼습니다.
The king was so surprised.
왕은 몹시 놀랐습니다.
He called all the doctors in the palace to cure her, but no doctors could find out what was wrong with the princess.

피루즈가 얼른 가짜 수염을 떼어 내자 공주가 놀랐습니다.
They hugged each other in happiness.
두 사람은 기뻐하며 서로를 껴안았습니다.
“We must go back to Persia,” said Firouz. “I will get you out. I have an idea.”
“우리는 페르시아로 돌아가야 해요.” 피루즈가 말했습니다. “내가 당신을 데리고 나갈게요. 좋은 생각이 있어요.”
Firouz went to see the king of Kashmir.
피루즈는 카슈미르 왕을 만나러 갔습니다.
He told the king, “The princess is crazy because of an evil spell. We have to burn the magic horse and the evil spell will be broken. Then the princess will be healthy again.”
왕자는 왕에게 말했습니다. “공주님은 사악한 마법 때문에 제정신이 아니십니다. 마법의 말을 태우면 사악한 마법이 풀릴 것입니다. 그러면 공주님은 다시 건강해지실 겁니다.”
The next day, the king of Kashmir got ready to burn the magic horse.
다음 날, 카슈미르 왕은 마법의 말을 태울 준비를 했습니다.
Many people came to see the magic horse burn.
많은 사람이 마법의 말이 타는 것을 보러 왔습니다.
The princess was sitting on the horse.
공주는 말 위에 앉아 있었습니다.
Firouz made a huge fire around the horse, and he acted like he was saying some magic words.
피루즈는 말 주위에 큰불을 피우고 주문을 외우는 척했습니다.
All of a sudden, Firouz jumped onto the horse and pressed the button.
갑자기 피루즈가 말 위로 뛰어올라 단추를 눌렀습니다.
Immediately, the horse jumped and flew into the sky.

Firouz and Moon Flower escaped from the king of Kashmir and returned to Persia safely.
