Jay: Hello? Hey, Javier. Manny’s waiting for you outside. What? Why not? Hold that thought.

     (drinks whiskey)

여보세요, 하비엘인가? 매니가 밖에서 기다리고 있네만.

뭐? 왜 못 와? 그런 생각은 접어.

 

(Commentary)

Jay: His son’s sitting on the curb waiting to go to Disneyland, and Superman can’t drag himself away from a craps table. And I’m the jerk.

   아들은 디즈니랜드 가려고 길에 앉아 기다리고 있고, 아들에겐 슈퍼맨인 아비는 도박판에서 빠져 나오지도 못하고, 나만 나쁜 놈이고.

*craps (단수 취급) (미) 주사위 도박: 주사위 2개를 던져 첫번째에 7이나 11이 나온 쪽이 이기고,

2, 3이나 12가 나온 쪽이 짐.  /snáke èyes (craps에서) 1이 2개 나오는 일, (주사위의) 2의 눈.

 

(Cut back to scene)

Jay: So listen. I, uh… sorry, but I got some bad news.

     있잖아, 미안한데, 안 좋은 소식이 있어.

Manny: What? 뭔데요?

Jay: Your dad couldn’t make it.  네 아버지 못 오신단다.

*We've just made it. 그럭저럭 시간에 댔다.

 

Manny: Why not?  왜 못 와요?

Jay: The plane was full and this old lady needed to get home, so he gave up his seat.

    비행기 좌석이 매진인데 어떤 할머니가 집에 꼭 가야 한다고 해서 좌석을 양보했다

더라.

Manny: You’re making that up, aren’t you? 지어낸 거죠?

Jay: No!  아냐!

Manny: He just didn’t wanna come.  그냥 오기 싫은 거에요.

Jay: Are you kidding me? He was very upset! He was dying to see you. In fact, look what

he sent. (limo pulls up)

 장난하니? 네 아버지 아주 화나셨어!  널 얼마나 보고 싶어 하는데. 뭘 보내 왔나 봐.

Manny: A limo?!  리무진요!

Jay: Yeah! He wanted me and your mom to take you to Disneyland.

     그래!  나랑 네 엄마가 널 디즈니랜드 데려가길 원하시더라.

Manny: I told you he was an awesome dad.

        말했죠, 멋진 아빠라고요.

Jay: Yeah, he’s a prince.  그럼, 멋진 분이야.

 

 

 

(Voiceover)

Jay: Okay, the key to being a good dad… Well, sometimes things work out just the way you

      want them.

      좋은 아빠가 되는 비결은…뭐, 가끔은 원하는 데로 일이 이뤄지긴 하죠.

 

(Cut to Phil and Luke cycling down the street)

Luke: I’ll race you to the end. 끝까지 경주해요.

Phil: That is not a good idea. For you.  좋은 생각은 아닌데. 너한테는 말야.

 

(Voiceover)

Jay: Sometimes they don’t. You gotta hang in there….

    가끔은 그렇게 되지 않죠. 버텨야 합니다.

*Just hang in there a little bit more. 조금만 참아.

 

(Cut to a frustrated Mitchell and Cameron playing with Lily, who does not want to grab blocks)

 

Jay: …because when all is said and done… 왜냐, 모든 걸 다 따져볼 때…

*When all is said and done, I still disapprove of her choice.

다 따져 보더라도, 여전히 그녀가 선택한 것이 마음에 들지 않아.

/However, when all is said and done, psychologists say that a wedding is only a small part of a marriage. 그러나 모든 것을 고려해볼 때, 심리학자들은 결혼식이 결혼의 작은 부분일 뿐이라고 말한다.

 

(Cut to Jay and Gloria in limo with a sleeping Manny)

 

Jay: …ninety percent of being a dad… is just showing up.

     아빠가 된다는 것의 90%는 … 제 때 모습을 드러내는 겁니다.
