부분부정과 전체부정

‘모두(둘 다, 항상, 전혀) ～하지 않다’와 같이 전체를 부정하는 것을 전체 부정이라 하며, ‘모두(둘 다, 항상, 전혀) ～한 것은 아니다(～하지는 않다)’와 같이 일부분을 부정하는 것을 부분 부정이라고 한다.

  * 부분부정 : not + both/all/every/always/completely/necessarily/entirely

  * 전체부정 : no/neither/none/never/nothing/nobody

   I like both of them                                                     완전긍정

   I do not like both of them (=I like one of them)            부분부정

   I do not like either of them = I like neither of them      전체부정

   I know all of them                                                      완전긍정

   I do not know all of them                                            부분부정

   I do not know any of them = I know none of them       전체부정

   Everybody likes her

   Everybody does not like her

   Nobody likes her

   Everybody cannot become an Edison

   The rich are always happy

   The rich are not always happy

   The rich are never happy

   The building is not completely finished
