이 짧은 영화가 담고자 하는 것은

유명인의 얘기도 아니고, 재미를 추구하는 이야기도 아닙니다.

하지만 지구 반대편에서 고통받고 있는

우리와 똑같은 사람들, 아이들의 이야기를 얘기하고 있습니다.

번역을 한 번도 해본적이 없는 제가

이틀에 걸려 이 영화를 위해 자막을 만든건

그만큼, 우리 한국인들도 알아야하기 때문입니다.

이 영화는 조셉코니와 그의 반란군 L.R.A에 관한
이야기를 담고 있습니다. 20년이 넘는 세월동안, 우간다에서
많은 아이들을 강제로 납치하고 유괴해 자신들의 반란군에 영입시키고.
아이들에게 총을 들게하고 살인을 요구합니다. 여자아이들을 성노예로
전락시키고, 하루하루를 두려움에서 살게합니다.

이 실태는 영화의 아이디어를 얻기위해, 캘리포니아에서 아프리카로 떠난 젊은
영화제작자들에 의해서 알려지게 되었습니다. 다시 미국으로 돌아온 후, 그들은
북우간다의 어린청소년군인들과 납치, 그 외의 다른 비극적인 실태들을 비추기 위해
"감춰진 아이들 (Invisible children)" 미완성버젼을 공개했습니다.
이 영화는 본래 제작자들의 가족과 친구들에게만 상영됐지만, 이제는
몇백만명의 사람들이 보는 영상이 되었습니다. 가장 많이 돌아왔던 반응 중 하나는,
"어떻게 도울 수 있습니까?" 라는 질문이었습니다. 이 질문에 답하기 위해 비영리단체,
감춰진 아이들이 만들어졌고, 관심을 가지는 많은 지지자들에게 효율적인 제안과 답변
을 주고있습니다.

하지만 이런 실태에 대해서, 그 누구도 신경쓰지않았고
세상은 아름답고 보기 좋은 것들에 대해서만 얘기해왔습니다.
이 영화를 통해서, 우간다에서 일어나고 있는 조셉코니의 잔학행위들이
알려지기 원합니다. 우리가 살고 있는 세상은 아직 살만하다는 것을.
아직 우리는 우리와 함께 살고 있는 다른 이들을 걱정하고 보호하려고
애쓴다는 것을 보여주기 원합니다. 그 많은 세월동안 방치되었고 외면당했던
그의 범죄들이 이제는 멈춰져야합니다.

한국의 작고 어린아이들이 반란군에 의해 유괴되어
살인과 각종 범죄를 하도록 강요당했다고 생각해본다면
이해가 더 잘 되실까요?
사는 곳이 다르다고 해서. 나라가 약하고 가난하다고 해서
그 곳에 사는 이들의 목숨의 값어치가 우리와 다르다고 할 수 없습니다.
우리는 모두 자유로운 삶을 살아갈 권리가 있습니다.
어린아이들은 부모 품안에서 죽음이나 유괴에 대해 두려움없이
잠들 필요가 있습니다. 어린아이답게, 순수하고 걱정없이 유년시절을
누릴 권리가 있습니다. 물질적이든 물질적이지 않든 상관없습니다.
도와주세요. 이 동영상이 한국에서도 퍼져나가도록. 우리나라의 이야기가
아니지만, 같은 지구의 땅을 밟고 있는 우간다아이들과 사람들을 생각하며
같이 아파하고, 정의를 실현할 수 있는 힘을 보여주십시오.
