A. 해외에 있는 레스토랑에서 식사를 할 경우 메뉴판에 있는 음식을 가리키며 시킬 수 있겠지만 이것으로 주문이 끝나는 것은 아닙니다. 식사를 주문하기에 앞서 음료를 주문하고, 식사를 주문할 때에도 애피타이저, 메인, 디저트 순으로 시키며, 웨이터가 고기를 익힌 정도, 사이드 디쉬(side dish)에 대해서도 물어봅니다.

외국 레스토랑에서 주문할 때의 상황과 이때 사용할 수 있는 유용한 표현 몇 가지를 다음과 같이 알려드립니다.

 

   1. Waiter: Good evening. Would you like to see the drinks menu?

       웨이터: 안녕하세요. 음료 메뉴부터 보시겠습니까?

      Customer: Yes, please.

       고객: 네, 감사합니다.

   2. Waiter: What would you like to drink?

       웨이터: 음료는 무엇으로 하시겠습니까?

       Customer: I'll have a diet coke, please. And may we have the main menu, please?

       고객: 다이어트 콜라 주세요. 그리고 메인 메뉴 좀 주세요.

 

   3. Waiter: Are you ready to order?

       웨이터: 주문할 준비 되셨습니까?

      Customer: Yes. I'll have the sirloin steak, please.

       고객: 네, 설로인 스테이크 주세요.

 

   4. Waiter: Okay. How would you like your steak?

       웨이터: 네, 스테이크 굽기는 어느 정도로 원하십니까?

      Customer: Medium rare, please.

       고객: 미디엄 레어로 주세요.

 

   5. Waiter: Which side dish would you like with that?

       웨이터: 사이드 디쉬는 어떤 것으로 하겠습니까?

      Customer: I'd like the salad with vinegarette dressing, and mashed potatotes.

       고객: 샐러드와 비네가레트 드레싱, 그리고 매쉬 포테이토 주세요.

 

   6. Waiter: Would you like anything else?

       웨이터: 또 추가로 필요하신 것 있습니까?

      Customer: No, we're all set, thank you.

       고객: 아니요. 다 됐습니다. 감사합니다.

 

   7. Waiter: Is everything okay?

       웨이터: 음식 맛 괜찮습니까?

      Customer: Wonderful, thank you.

       고객: 네, 맛있습니다.

 

   8. Customer: The dessert menu please.

       고객: 디저트 메뉴 좀 주세요.

 

   9. Waiter: What would you like to order?

       웨이터: 어떤 디저트를 주문하시겠습니까?

      Customer: One brownie with ice cream and one coffee please.

       고객: 브라우니와 아이스크림 하나와 커피 하나요.

 

  10. Customer: Check, please.

        고객: 계산서 좀 주세요.
