Gil: Lost? Well, I guess I am lost.

Adriana: Tell me more about your book.

Gil: My book is kind of a... You know what? I couldn't care less about my book tonight.
I just want to walk around Paris with you.

Adriana: I keep forgetting you're just a tourist.

Adriana: I can never decide whether Paris is more beautiful by day or by night.
파리는 밤이 더 아름다운지 낮이 더 아름다운지 결정할 수 없어요.
Gil: No, you can't. You couldn't pick one. I mean, I can give you a checkmate argument for each side. You know, I sometimes think, "How's anyone ever gonna come up with a book, or a painting, or a symphony or a sculpture that can compete with a great city?" You can't, 'cause, like, you look around, every... every street, every boulevard is its own special art form. And when you think that in the cold, violent, meaningless universe, that Paris exists, these lights... I mean, come on, there's nothing happening on Jupiter or Neptune, but from way out in space you can see these lights, the cafés, people drinking, and singing... I mean, for all we know, Paris is the hottest spot in the universe.
당연히 못하죠. 하나를 선택할 순 없어요. 어느 쪽을 결정하든 논쟁에서 외통수를 칠 수 있어요. 가끔 이런 생각을 해요, “어느 누구라도 위대한 도시와 대적할 만한 책을 쓰고, 그림을 그리고, 교향곡을 짓고, 조각을 할 수 있을까?” 못합니다. 왜냐, 둘러보세요, 큰 길이고 작은 길이고 다 고유의 예술형식을 가지고 있어요. 차갑고, 난폭하고, 의미 없는 우주에서 파리가 존재한다고 상상해 보세요, 이 불빛들…저 멀리 우주에서 이 불빛들과 카페들, 술 마시는 사람들, 노래하는 사람들을 볼 수 있죠. 내가 아는 한 이 우주에서 파리가 가장 근사한 곳이에요.
Adriana: Vous êtes un poète.(You are a poet.) 시인이세요.
Gil: Aw, come on. It's just... You're very kind, but I wouldn't call my babbling poetic.
Although I was on a pretty good roll there.
오, 제발. 그건 그냥…친절하시지만, 내가 지껄이는 게 시라고는 하지 않을 겁니다.
그래도 파리 얘기 읊으면서 꽤나 매끄러웠죠.
