 ⇒ 상대방에게 도움을 주거나 호의를 베풀고자 할 때 사용
    또는 가게에서 점원이 손님에게 하는 말로도 사용된다.  
 (같은 표현) Can I help you?

2) Here you are.
   여기 있어요.
 ⇒ 물건 등을 건네 줄 때 쓰는 말. 단수와 복수 모두 가능하다.
 (같은 표현)  Here it is.(단수)
              Here they are.(복수)
   
  *Here we are. : 다 왔다. (목적지에 도착 했음을 알리는 표현)
 
3) How do I get to Seoul station?
   전주 역에는 어떻게 가나요?
⇒ Can you tell me how to get to Seoul station?
    Can you tell me where Seoul station is?
    Can you show me the way to Seoul station.
 
4) That sounds great!
    그것 좋은 (생각인)데요?
 ⇒ 상대방의 의견이나 제안에 동의하는 표현
(같은 표현) That sounds good! = That's a good idea!
 
5) How do you like Korean food?
   한국음식 입에 맞나요?
    =Do you like Korean dishes?
    = What do you think of Korean food?
(답변) How do you like ∼?는 '∼이 얼마나 마음에 들었니?' 라는 의미로
대답은 I love it(아주 마음에 들었어),
Very much(대단히 좋았어),
Not too bad(괜찮았어)와 같이 할 수 있다.
 
6) How would you like your steak?
    스테이크 어떻게 구워 드릴까요?
    ⇒ Rare, please.(살짝)
       Medium, please.(중간)
       Well-done, please.(잘 구워 줘요)
 
7) Fasten your seat belt please.
    좌석(안전)벨트 매 주십시오.
   ⇒ Buckle up.
       
8) Would you like to drink something?
   뭘 좀 마시겠어요?
⇒ Would you like to ∼?는 제안이나 권유를 나타내는 표현이다.  
  = Would you care for something to drink?
  = Would you like anything to drink?
 
9) I'd like to help the sick.
  나는 아픈 사람들을 돕고 싶어.
⇒ I'd는 I would의 줄임 말이며,
  would like to는 '∼을 하고싶다'는 뜻이다.
  'the +형용사'는 복수 보통명사를 나타낸다.
 

 
10) What do you think of Korean food?
   한국음식에 대해서 어떻게 생각하세요?
⇒ What을 How로 쓰지 않도록 주의한다.
 
11) Pardon me?
   다시 말씀해 주세요.
⇒ 상대방의 말을 못 알아들어서 다시 말해 달라고 부탁할 때 쓰는 표현.
   = Excuse me?
     I beg your pardon?
     Would you repeat?
     What did you say?
 
12) How long does it take to get there?   
    거기에 도착하는 데 얼마나 걸립니까?
    It takes about an hour by bus.
    버스로 약 한시간 쯤 걸립니다.
⇒ take는 '(시간이) ∼걸리다(필요하다)'는 뜻이다.
   How long∼?은 시간이 얼마나 걸리는 지를 물어 볼 때 쓰인다.
 
13) It takes ten minutes to get there.
    거기 가는데 십분이 걸립니다.
⇒ It와 take 사이에 걸리는 시간을 넣으면 된다.
 
14) What's new?
   무슨 일 있니?, 새로운 것이 있니?, 잘 지내니?
⇒ 상대방의 안부를 묻는 표현이다.
(같은 표현) How have you been?
 
15) Have a seat.  
    자리에 앉아.
⇒ 자리에 앉을 것을 권유하는 표현.
   Take a seat, please.
 
16) Is anybody home?
    집에 누구 있어요?
⇒ 집안에 사람이 있는지 없는지 확인하는 표현.
 
17) Help yourself.
    마음껏 먹어.
⇒ 상대방에게 음식 등을 마음껏 가져다 먹으라는 뜻.
   원래는 Help your self to the food. = Enjoy your meal.
 
18) We've had a good time.
   즐거웠어.
    = We had fun.
    = We enjoyed ourselves.
⇒파티를 마치고 떠날 때 주인에게 감사의 표시로 하는 인사말.
(같은 표현) It was a good party.
 
19) Oh, never mind.
    아, 신경 쓰지마.
⇒ 걱정하고 있거나 미안해하는 상대에게 해 주는 말이다.
   = Take it easy.
 
20) Let me introduce you to my mom.
   너에게 우리 엄마께 소개 할께.
⇒ Let me∼는 '∼하겠다'는 나의 의지와 함께 상대방의 허락을 구하는      표현.
   Let me help you.(도와 줄께)
   Let me go.(가게 해줘)
 
21) Make yourself at home.
   편하게 지내라.(행동해라.)
⇒ at home = comfortable (편안한)의 뜻으로
 자기 집에 있는 것처럼 마음을 편히 하라는 뜻.
= Make yourself comfortable.
  Feel at home, please.
 

 
22)  How about eating out tonight?
   오늘밤 외식하는 것이 어때요?
⇒ How about∼은 상대의 의견을 묻는 표현.
(같은 표현) What about eating out tonight?
            Let's eat out tonight.
            why don't you eat out tonight?
 
23) How come?
   왜? 어째서?
(같은 표현) Why?⇒ have A with B = A가 B와 함께 있다.
 
24)  Shall we make it at six?
    6시에 만날까요?
⇒ Shall we∼? 는 권유를 나타냄.
   make it는 '약속을 정하다' 는 구어체 표현
 
25)  May I try this on?
    이것을 입어봐도 될까요?
⇒ try on= '입어보다, 써보다, 신어 보다' 등의 뜻으로
 
26) I'll take it.
  이것으로 하겠어요.
⇒ 가게에서 몇 개의 물건을 비교한 뒤에 하나를 고르며 하는 말이다.
 
27) Do you mind opening the door?
   문 좀 열어 주시겠어요?
⇒mind는(동명사 취함) 꺼려하다의 뜻으로 답변은 반대로 한다.
 대답할 때 긍정이면 No, I don't(꺼려하지 않아요. 열어 드리죠).
 부정이면 Yes, I do.(예 꺼려해요/ 열기 싫어요)  
 
28)  I get your points.
   말씀하신 뜻을 알겠어요.
⇒ point는 '말의 요점' 이라는 의미이다.
(같은 표현) I understand. = I got it.
 
29)  What makes you think so?
   무엇 떄문에 그렇게 생각하니?
⇒ 직역하면 '무엇이 너를 그렇게 생각하니?' 라는 의미이다.
(같은 표현) Why do you think so?
 
30) Do you really meant it?
   진심이세요?
⇒ 상대방의 말을 확인 할 때 쓸 수 있는 말.
(같은 표현) Do you mean what you say?  
            Really?
            Are you serious?
     -대답: I mean it. (진심 이예요.)
            I'm serious
 

 
31) I have a headache.
    머리가 아파요.
⇒ 'have+병명'은 '∼가 아프다'는 뜻이다.
   *여러 가지 병명 : sore throat - 인후염
                     headache - 두통
                     heartache - 가슴앓이
                     toothache - 치통
                     backache - 요통
                     stomachache - 복통
                     have(=get=catch) a cold - 감기 걸리다.
 
32) It's been (such) a long time.
    오래간만이다.
⇒직역하면 '너를 마지막 본 후로 오랜 시간이 지났다.' 라는 말로
오랜만에 만난 사람에게 하는 말이다.
(같은 표현) Long time no see.
            I haven't seen you for a long time(=ages)
 
33)  Take it easy.
    잘 가라! (몸조심해!)
⇒원래는 '편하게 생각해라. 쉬엄쉬엄 해라.'의 뜻으로 헤어질 때 하는
  인사말로도 쓰인다.
(같은 표현) Take care of yourself
 
34) May I speak to Mr. Kim?
⇒ 전화에서 '∼와 통화 좀 할 수 있을까요?'라는 표현에는
  Can(=May) I speak(=talk) ∼?
  Is ∼ over there? 등을 쓴다.
 
35)  She's not in.
   안 계세요.
⇒ 전화에서 찾는 사람이 없을 때 쓸 수 있는 말.
(같은 표현) She's not at home.
            She's out.        
 
36)  You know what?
   있잖아. 그런데 말이야.
⇒ 말을 시작하기 전에 하는 말..
(같은 표현) Guess what?
           I'll tell you what.
 
37) It's a pity that he is sick.
   그가 아프다니 안됐다.
⇒ It's a pity that∼은 '∼이 유감스럽다.'라는 뜻으로
동정이나 위로를 할 때 쓰는 표현이다.
(같은 표현) I'm sorry that∼  
 
38) What happened?
   무슨 일이 생겼지?
⇒ 상황에 따라 '무슨 일이지?'란 뜻의
   What's the matter (with you)?
   What's up?
   What's wrong?  등과 비슷하게 쓰일 수 있다
 
39) You're welcome.
 ⇒ Thank you에 대한 답변으로 천만에요.
    = Don't mention it.(그런 말씀 마세요.)
    = My Pleasure.
    = Never mind.
 

 
40) Telephone English
 ⇒ You have the wrong number.(전화 잘못 거셨어요.)
    He is on the line.(통화 중이에요)
    May I take your message.(메시지 전해 들릴까요?)
 
41) You must be kidding.
    농담이겠죠.
  ⇒ You must be kidding.
     No kidding.
     Are you teasing me?
 
42) That'a all right.
    괜찮아요.
  ⇒ That's O.K. No problem.
(주의) That's right.(네 말이 맞다.) = You're right.

    상관 마세요.
 ⇒ 너나 잘해라는 뜻으로 남이 끼어 들 때 사용.
   = Do your own business.

     여기서 드실 건가요?
    = Take-away or to stay?
 
45) Please give my love to everyone.
    모두에게 안부 전해 주세요.
    = Please say hello to everyone.
    = Give my regards to everyone.

     잠깐 들어가도 되나요?
    = Do you mind if I come in?
     ⇒ 그러세요. 어서 들어오세요는 Please go ahead. Come on in.
 
47) It's up to you.
    당신 마음대로 하세요.
   = It depends on you.
   = whatever you want.
 
48) How soon can you finish it?
    그거 끝내는데 얼마나 걸리나요?
   ⇒ How soon은 빠르기의 정도. 답변은 주로 in+시간으로
    (I'll finish it) in two hours.(두 시간 후면 끝나요.)
 
49) Turn off the T.V, please.
     티비 좀 꺼주세요.
  ⇒ 켜달라는 표현은 Turn on.
소리좀 낮춰 달라는 말은 turn down the volume, please하면 된다.
 
50) I'm sorry I'm a stranger here myself.
    저도 여기는 처음입니다.
