Reporters are milling about. Billy is talking to a female reporter.

The_West_Wing.jpg

BILLY: Al Caldwell scares the hell out of the President, and Josh knows it.

*=scare the shit out of someone

;to make someone feel very frightened.

I wish you wouldn't come in without knocking - you scared the shit out of me.
/
frighten/scare the hell out of
someone, frighten
/scare the life out of
someone, frighten/scare
someone to death

WOMAN: Hes not going to fire him.

BILLY: Hes got no choice.

*have / have got

Ive got a lot of work to do.

Have you got a match?

He hasnt got enough money.

미국 구어에서는 have got have까지 생략한 got 의 형태로도 쓴다.

I got a right to know. havent I ?

He got a nice house.

You got a match?

Got a sec?

Hes got a blind eye. (X) à He has a blind eye.

Hes got a black eye. (O) à

have to do ; ~ 해야 한다

I have to see him. / I had to see him.

Do you have to go today? / You dont have to go today. ()

Have you to go today? / You havent to go today.

You dont have to be rich to help others.(/)

미 구어체에서는 have got to=got to = gotta 의 형태도 나타남.

Ive got to go = I got to go = I gotta go.

must be(추측,~임에 틀림없다)의 의미로 구어체에서

have got to be(= gotta be)를 쓴다.

A: Somebodys knocking at the door.

B: Gotta be Mike.

WOMAN: Billy, the Presidents not going to fire Josh Lyman.

BILLY: He doesnt have a choice.

BILLY: Listen, I had drinks with Sam Seaborn last night.

WOMAN: And Sam said that the President was going to fire Josh?

BILLY: He needs these people. Hes going to have to give them Josh.

C.J.: Folks? Folks?

WOMAN: Billy, what do you think if he just

BILLY: He doesnt have a choice.
