A    Hey, you don't look okay today. Are you alright?
B    Not really. I have a runny nose and a headache.
      I think I have a cold.
A    Yes, because you are exposed to the air conditioner
      too much.
      You've got airconditioningitis.
      You'd better go to see a doctor during lunchtime.
 
 
A    야, 오늘 너 좀 안 좋아 보인다. 괜찮아?
B    아니, 별로. 콧물이 나고 머리가 아파.
      감기 걸린 것 같아.
A    그래, 너 에어컨 바람을 너무 많이 쐬서 그래.
      너 냉방병이야.
      점심시간에 병원에 가보는 게 좋겠다.

 
 



 
 
"I have a runny nose and a headache." 는 감기에 걸려 콧물이 나고 머리가 아플 때 사용할 수 있는 표현입니다.
그러나 오늘의 핵심은 단순 감기 증상이 아니라 한여름에만 걸릴 수 있는 '냉방병' 으로 인한 증상에 관한 건데요.
실은, "냉방병에 걸렸어요." 라는 뜻으로 널리 통용되는 영어 표현은 아직 없다고 합니다.
하지만, 이런 맥락에서 "You've got airconditioningitis." 라고 하게 되면, 모든 잉글리시 스피커(English speaker)들은 쉽게 이해할 수 있습니다.
'-itis' 는 명사 뒤에 붙어 '~병' 또는 '~염' 따위의 뜻을 만들어 주는 접미사이기 때문입니다.
참고로, 감기 등으로 인해 온몸이 쑤신다는 표현은 "It aches all over." 라고 합니다.
