글의 전후관계로 보아 문중의 일부를 생략하더라도 이해에 지장을 주지 않을 때
동일어구의 반복을 피하고 글의 문장을 간결하게 하기 위해 일부를 빼서 간결하
게 할때합니다.
Mary has washed the dishes, Mary has dried them, and Mary has put them in the cupboard.
=> Mary has washed the dishes, she has dried them, and she has put them in the cupboard.
=> Mary has washed the dishes, has dried them, and has put them in the cupboard.
=> Mary has washed the dishes, dried them, and put them in the cupboard.
반복되는 어구에 대해 반복을 피하기 위해
and, but 등위절에서 주어, 동사, 혹은 <주어 + 동사>가 반복되면 뒤의 것은 생략
주어 The girl got hurt and (she) went to hospital.
He made a speech and (he) was applauded by the audience.
동사 Some went on foot, others (went) by bus.
To err is human, to forgive (is) divine. 격언
명사 A bird in a hand is worth two (birds) in the bush. 속담
My room is smaller than my brother's (room).
보어의I don't like to be late for school, but I frequently am (late).
대부정사 I don't know him, and don't want to.(know him)

부사절에서 주어가 주절의 주어와 같고 동사가 be동사인 경우에는 생략하는 경우가 빈번하다.

· They said gently as if (they were) the noble.
접속사 that의 생략 : 목적어절이나 보어절을 이끌 때.
· He said (that) he was feeling better.
